Enabling Turnitin for Brightspace Assignments

Created by Trae Brown, Modified on Tue, 1 Apr at 11:45 AM by Trae Brown

Enabling Turnitin can be done either during assignment creation or after an assignment has already been created.

To enable during the creation of a new assignment, navigate to the Assignments page and click New Assignment.

On the new assignment creation page, there is a sidebar on the right side containing an Evaluation & Feedback section. Click the arrow on the right side to expand for more options.

At the bottom of the expanded element there is a section for Turnitin. Click Manage Turnitin to continue.

In this new window you can check the Enable Similarity Report for this folder option to enable Turnitin for the assignment. Below that are some additional options that are up to you to enable. Save to continue.

After that is enable you can continue creating the assignment and save when finished.

To enable Turnitin on an existing assignment, navigate to the Assignments page as before and find the assignment you wish to modify. Click the arrow next to the assignment to reveal the drop-down menu, then select Edit Assignment.

Just as before, go to the sidebar on the right, drop down the extra options for the Evaluation & Feedback section and click Manage Turnitin. There you can check the same Enable Similarity Report for this folder to enable Turnitin for that assignment. Save to continue.

Once you have enable Turnitin for an assignment the icon should now appear next to the assignment as such:

If you have retroactively enable Turnitin on an assignment that already has submissions, use the drop-down arrow next to the assignment and click View Submissions.

A new column will appear called Turnitin Similarity Report. In that column next to each assignment submission is an icon that will allow you to submit the assignment to be evaluated by Turnitin.

This will prompt an In Progress response followed by a similarity score that can be clicked in order to see the full report in a new tab. The page may need to be refreshed to view the similarity score if it isn't changing from In Progress after a minute or so, depending on the length of the submission.
